Russian Orthodox Church in Communion with Rome Dissolves

TASHKENT, UZBEKISTAN, 3 April 2025 — The Russian Orthodox Church in Communion with Rome has formally ceased to exist as a distinct ecclesial body under the protection of the Holy See. The majority of its clergy have entered into full communion with the Russian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate, leading to the dissolution of the community.

As a result, only a small remnant remains—one bishop, one priest, and approximately eight lay members. To ensure continued pastoral care, these remaining faithful have been officially registered with the Old Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.

In light of these developments, the Holy See has removed the former community’s name from its official list of jurisdictions, marking the end of its recognition. It is important to note that the Holy See of the City of Jerusalem is not affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate.
