Lectio
“Then, seeing the star, they were gladdened by a very great joy. And entering the home, they found the boy with his mother Mary. And so, falling prostrate, they worshipped him. And opening their treasures, they offered him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.” (Matthew 2:10-11)
When reading this passage, think about the Magi’s journey, their joy at finding the Christ child, and their act of worship. Reflect on the significance of their gifts: gold for Christ the King, frankincense for His divinity, and myrrh, foreshadowing His suffering and death.
Meditatio
What journey am I undertaking to seek Christ? Meditate on your spiritual journey and how you are striving to encounter the Lord. Are you attentive to the signs He places before you, as the Magi were to the star? What gifts can I offer to Christ? Consider what treasures you hold—your time, talents, and love—and how you might present them to Jesus in worship and service. Do I rejoice in His presence? Reflect on the joy that comes from encountering Christ. Is His presence in your life a source of deep and lasting peace?
Oratio
Lord Jesus, like the Magi, I seek You with all my heart. Help me to recognise the signs You place before me and to follow them faithfully. May I bring You my treasures—my love, my life, my everything—and lay them at Your feet in humble worship. Fill me with the joy of Your presence, and guide me always on the path that leads to You. Amen.
Contemplatio
Think of yourself travelling with the Magi, following the star that leads to Jesus. See their joy as they finally behold the Holy Child and fall down in worship. Picture yourself kneeling before the Lord, offering Him the treasure of your heart. Rest in the peace and awe of His presence, knowing that He is the Light of the world, come to guide and save you.
Actio
Spend time in adoration before the Blessed Sacrament or in quiet prayer at home, offering your heart to Jesus. Reflect on how you can make your life a continual gift to Him. Throughout the day, repeat: “Jesus, You are the light of my life.” Let His presence illuminate your path and fill you with joy.
