Lectio Divina for 5 December 2025

Lectio
“Whoever will have loosened one of the least of these Commandments, and have taught men so, shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever will have done and taught these, such a one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19)

While reading this verse, hear Christ’s clear and solemn teaching on the importance of the Commandments. Notice the distinction He makes between those who disregard and those who uphold God’s Law, especially in teaching others. Let the weight of these words challenge you to consider your own obedience and example.

Meditatio
Do I strive to uphold all of God’s Commandments, even the smallest? Meditate on your daily life and whether you are faithful in both great and small matters of God’s Law. Are there areas where you tend to compromise? What example am I setting for others? Consider how your actions and words influence those around you. Are you encouraging others to live righteously, or are you lax in demonstrating the importance of obedience to God? What does it mean to be called “great” in the kingdom of heaven? Meditate on the connection between humble obedience, faithful teaching, and the reward of heavenly honour.

Oratio
My Lord, help me to treasure every one of Your Commandments, even the least. Give me the grace to live faithfully and to teach others by word and example. Forgive me for the times I have failed to uphold Your Law. Make me a humble and faithful servant, striving always to please You and to guide others to do the same. Amen.

Contemplatio
Picture yourself standing before Christ as He teaches the crowds. Feel the gravity of His words as He calls you to faithful obedience and a life of integrity. Imagine the joy of hearing Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” for upholding His Commandments. Rest in the peace that comes from bringing your life in accord with His will.

Actio
Choose one of God’s Commandments today and reflect on how you can better live it out in your daily life. Be intentional about teaching others, whether through your example or conversation, the importance of following God’s Law.

Please pray for peace and safety in the Holy Land. (info)
