“I will extol you, Yahweh, for you have sustained me, and you have not allowed my enemies to delight over me.”(Psalm 29:2)
Meditatio
Meditate on the reasons you have to extol the Lord. Think of the moments in your life when God has sustained you—when He has provided for you, protected you, or carried you through difficult times. Our Lord does not abandon His people to be defeated or mocked by their enemies, but instead He upholds and defends them. Think about any adversities or “enemies” you face, whether they are external challenges or internal struggles. How has God sustained you through them? How has He shown His faithfulness, even when things seemed bleak?
David’s gratitude encourages us to look past our present struggles and to acknowledge the Lord’s past mercies. Even if your present situation feels overwhelming, meditate on how God has helped you before, and let that remembrance strengthen your confidence and gratitude now.
Oratio
O Lord, I extol Your holy name, for You are my sustainer and my defender. You have lifted me up time and again, protecting me from those who seek my harm, whether they are fears, doubts, or difficulties in life. I thank You, Lord, for not allowing my enemies—seen or unseen—to delight over me. You are my shield, my strength, and my song. May my heart always be filled with gratitude for Your faithfulness and Your sustaining power. I praise You now and always through Jesus Christ Your Son. Amen
Contemplatio
Contemplate how the Lord’s hand has guided you, protected you, and kept you from harm. Imagine the strength of Christ’s embrace holding you up, shielding you from anything that would seek to bring you down. Let this truth bring peace to your heart, knowing that His care is constant and His defence of you is sure. Contemplate on the fact that He will never let you fall into the hands of your enemies.
Actio
Practice a spirit of gratitude by recalling specific times the Lord has sustained you. Keep a journal of these instances, offering thanks each day for a different moment of God’s faithfulness. Let this exercise remind you of His ongoing care, especially when you face current challenges. Share a word of encouragement with someone who might be feeling defeated or struggling; remind them of the Lord’s faithfulness and sustaining power. Lift them up as He has lifted you, becoming a source of strength and encouragement for others.
