Lectio
“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without me, you are able to do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Meditatio
Slowly read the verse, allowing its words to sink into your heart. Recognise the imagery Jesus uses—a living, organic connection between the vine and its branches. Understand the significant truth—the branches cannot survive without the vine. Jesus is our source of life, grace, and growth. Without Him, all efforts are barren.
How deeply am I rooted in Christ? Consider your daily life—your prayer habits, your participation in the Sacraments, and your love for others. Do these reflect a life deeply united with Christ? Reflect on times when you tried to live or work apart from Christ. Were your efforts fruitful or empty? Ask yourself: Am I truly allowing His life to flow into mine, or am I trying to bear fruit on my own strength?
Oratio
“O Lord Jesus, You are the vine, the source of all life and goodness. I acknowledge that without You, I can do nothing. Graft me more firmly into Your life, that I may draw strength and nourishment from You. Help me to bear fruits of love, patience, kindness, and humility, not for my glory but for Yours. Keep me always connected to You, Lord, for apart from You, I am lost. Amen.”
Contemplatio
Think of yourself as a branch on a strong, flourishing vine. Visualise the vibrant, green connection between you and the vine, with life-giving sap flowing from it into you. Picture the fruits growing as a result—bright, beautiful, and abundant. Feel the security and peace of being firmly attached to the source of life. Rest in the truth that as long as you remain connected to Christ, you will not wither.
Actio
Throughout the day, remind yourself of this connection whenever you feel distant or overwhelmed. Whisper a simple prayer: “Jesus, my vine, I remain in You.” Let this recollection guide your actions and thoughts back to Him.
