Lectio

Passage: “I have cried to thee, for thou, O God, hast heard me: O incline thy ear unto me, and hear my words. Shew forth thy wonderful mercies; thou who savest them that trust in thee.” (Psalm 16:6-7, DR)

Meditatio

  • “I have cried to thee, for thou, O God, hast heard me”: David speaks from a place of confidence, knowing that his prayers have been heard by God. Reflect on your own experiences of prayer. How have you felt assured that the Lord has listened to your cries? Meditate on the ways in which God has answered you in the past, strengthening your trust in His attentive care.
  • “O incline thy ear unto me, and hear my words”: David humbly asks the Lord to continue listening to him, seeking God’s attention and compassion. This indicates a deep relationship between David and God, marked by trust and ongoing communication. How often do you approach the Lord with such humility and confidence, trusting that He is always ready to listen?
  • “Shew forth thy wonderful mercies”: David asks God to reveal His mercies, acknowledging that these mercies are both powerful and life-saving. Meditate on the mercies that the Lord has shown in your life. How has He protected, guided, or comforted you in times of need?
  • “Thou who savest them that trust in thee”: Here, we see the theme of salvation through trust in God. Meditate on how your trust in Yahweh has been a source of salvation for you, not just in eternal terms but in your daily life. How does trusting in God transform your perspective on challenges and fears?

Oratio

O Lord, I cry out unto Thee with the confidence that Thou hearest me in this hour, just as Thou hast heard me before. Incline Thine ear to me, O God, and listen to the words of my heart. Reveal Thy wonderful mercies in my life, for I trust in Thee alone. Save me, guide me, and keep me nigh unto Thee, for I place my trust in Thine unfailing love. Amen.

Contemplatio

  • Contemplate God’s Mercy: Sit quietly and focus on the mercies God has shown you throughout your life. Allow a sense of gratitude to fill your heart as you recall His kindness and faithfulness.
  • Rest in Trust: Contemplate what it means to truly trust in Yahweh. Picture yourself placing all your worries and fears in His hands, knowing that He will care for you. Let this trust bring you peace and calm in the presence of the Lord.

Actio

  • Renew Your Trust: Take time each day this week to renew your trust in God. Whether in prayer, through reading the Scriptures, or in moments of quiet reflection, affirm your belief in His mercy and His willingness to hear your prayers.
  • Show Mercy to Others: Reflecting on God’s mercy, consider how you can show mercy to those around you. This could be through acts of kindness, forgiveness, or simply listening to someone in need. Let the Lord’s mercy flow through you to others.
