Lectio
“O Yahweh, demonstrate Your ways to me, and teach me Your paths. Direct me in Your truth, and teach me. For You are God, my Saviour, and I remain with You all day long.” (Psalm 24:4-5)
This is a prayer for guidance and instruction from the Lord. David is seeking to know God’s ways and paths, trusting in Him as Saviour. As Christians, we see Christ as the ultimate fulfilment of the Father’s guidance and truth. Jesus said, “I am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.” (John 14:6)
Meditatio
“Demonstrate Your ways to me, and teach me Your paths.” David expressed his desire to know and follow the Lord’s ways. For us, this finds fulfilment in Christ, who is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life”. We are called to follow His example, walk in His ways, and learn from His teachings.
“Direct me in Your truth, and teach me.” Jesus Christ embodies the truth of God. When we ask God to teach us and direct us, we are asking to be guided by Christ Himself, who leads us into all truth. The Holy Spirit, sent by Christ, continues this work of teaching us and guiding us in our daily lives.
“For You are God, my Saviour.” Through His death and Resurrection, Christ has saves us from sin and death. David’s plea for salvation points to the ultimate salvation found in our Lord Jesus Christ.
“I remain with You all day long.” This reflects a deep communion with God. Through Christ, we can remain with God constantly, abiding in Him through prayer, the sacraments, and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
