Lectio
“Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. And the King of Glory shall enter. Who is this King of Glory? Yahweh who is strong and powerful; Yahweh powerful in battle. Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. And the King of Glory shall enter. Who is this King of Glory? Yahweh of virtue. He himself is the King of Glory.” (Psalm 23:6-10)

As Christians, we see Yahweh in Christ as the ultimate fulfilment of the “King of Glory.” He is the victorious King who entered Jerusalem triumphantly and who ascended into Heaven after His victory over sin and death.

Meditatio

“Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates.” The gates represent both the spiritual realms that welcomed Christ in His Ascension and the doors of our own souls. We are invited to receive Him as King.

Who is this King of Glory? Jesus Christ is the King of Glory. He is Yahweh made flesh, strong and powerful in battle, having conquered satan, sin, and death through His Passion, death, and Resurrection. He is the ultimate warrior, especially of spiritual warfare, for our salvation.

Yahweh of virtue – Christ’s kingship is one of perfect righteousness, mercy, and love. His virtue is the standard of holiness that we are called to follow.

As we reflect on this passage, we see that Christ is not only the victorious King but also the humble Saviour, who now reigns in glory at the right side of the Father and invites us to share in His victory.

Oratio
Lord Jesus Christ, King of Glory, I lift up the gates of my heart to welcome You. You, who are mighty in battle, have defeated sin and death through Your Cross and Resurrection. Enter into my life and reign as my King. Fill me with Your virtue and help me to follow Your path of righteousness. May Your victory over evil be my strength, and may I always open my heart to Your glorious presence. Amen.

Contemplatio
In silence, contemplate Christ as the King of Glory. Picture His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, His suffering on the Cross, and His glorious Resurrection. Imagine the eternal gates of Heaven opening as He ascended to the Father, victorious over sin and death. Let His majesty and power fill your heart with awe, and rest in the peace of His reign.

Actio

Open your heart to Christ daily, allowing Him to reign as King over your life.

When you face trials or spiritual battles, trust in the victory of Christ, who is strong and powerful in battle.

Reflect Christ’s virtues—His mercy, righteousness, and love—in your interactions with others, making Him visible through your actions.
