“The Spirit of Yahweh is upon me, for Yahweh has anointed me. He has sent me to bring good news to the meek, so as to heal the contrite of heart, to preach leniency to captives and release to the confined.” (Isaiah 61:1)
Here, Isaiah describes the mission of the Messiah, fulfilled in our Lord Jesus. In Luke 4:18-21, Jesus reads this passage in the synagogue and declares, “On this day, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” His mission was clear: to bring healing, freedom, and restoration to a world broken by sin and suffering.
Advent is a time to rejoice in the good news that Christ came to bring. He entered the world to heal our wounds, to free us from the captivity of sin, and to restore our relationship with the Father. This mission continues today, as Christ’s grace works in our lives, transforming us and empowering us to share His love with others.
Let this season be a reminder that Jesus came not only for the strong and righteous but for the poor, the broken-hearted, and the lost. If you feel burdened or unworthy, take heart—He came for you. Allow His Spirit to renew you, and let His mission of love shine through you to those in need.
Think of someone in your life who may be struggling—emotionally, spiritually, or physically. Reach out to them with an encouraging word, a small act of kindness, or an offer of prayer, reflecting Jesus’ love to them.
Lord Jesus Christ, You came to bring good news to the poor and freedom to the captives. We thank You for the gift of salvation and for Your healing presence in our lives. Help us to live as witnesses of Your love, bringing hope to those who are lost and broken. Fill us with Your Spirit so we may carry out Your mission. Amen.
