“For unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given. And leadership is placed upon his shoulder. And his name shall be called: Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
This well-loved prophecy from Isaiah proclaims the coming of the Messiah with titles that reveal His divine nature and mission. Each name points to an aspect of Jesus’ role in the world and in our lives. He is the Wonderful Counsellor who guides us with wisdom, the Mighty God who triumphs over evil, the Everlasting Father who cares for us tenderly, and the Prince of Peace who reconciles us to God and to one another.
As we meditate on these titles, we see that Jesus meets every need of the human heart. In times of confusion, He offers counsel; in moments of weakness, He gives strength. He is our Father, never abandoning us, and the source of true peace in a restless world.
Advent invites us to ponder the wonder of this child born to us, who embodies all the fullness of God. As we prepare to celebrate His birth, let us rest in the assurance that He is all we need and more.
Today, meditate on one of Christ’s titles from this verse. Ask Him to reveal how He is working in that role in your life, and take time to thank Him for His presence and provision.
Lord Jesus, You are the Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. We praise You for the fullness of Your love and for the salvation You bring. Help us to trust in Your wisdom, rely on Your strength, and find our peace in You. May our hearts overflow with gratitude and joy this Advent season. Amen.
