A farm without animals is a field without strength. Tradition tells that a wolf menaced Isidore’s beast of burden. He made the sign of the Cross and prayed; the attacker withdrew, and the creature was spared. The episode is brief but eloquent: man is steward, not tyrant; prayer extends to the creatures that serve human need; and fear yields to confidence in God. The miracle does not forbid vigilance or fence and staff; it places them within a larger obedience, where the work of hands is kept by the Maker of all.
Prayer: Lord of creation, bless the creatures entrusted to our care and the labour they make possible. Defend us from harm and calm our fears. Saint Isidore, pray for us.
Scripture: Psalm 104; Proverbs 12:10.
