Part 4: The Child Raised from the Well (with Saint María de la Cabeza)

Their little son—tradition names him Illán—tumbled into a deep well near Madrid. The parents’ cry rose at once to heaven. Isidore and his wife María de la Cabeza knelt and prayed, some accounts noting their appeal to Our Lady. Then the water, contrary to nature, rose within the shaft until it bore the child to safety. This domestic sign is the icon of Christian marriage: husband and wife united in peril, confident in God, grateful in deliverance. The well, a daily necessity, becomes the place of rescue; the parents, partners in intercession. Such is the dignity of a home where prayer is learned and repeated: in danger, hearts run to God together.

Prayer: Sacred Heart of Jesus, safeguard our children and kindred. Through the prayers of Saint Isidore and Saint María de la Cabeza, preserve our homes from harm and our souls in grace.

Scripture: Psalm 121; Mark 9:23–24.
