Part 10: Fountains of Favour in Madrid

Across the centuries pilgrims have come to the shrines of San Isidro in Madrid—the collegiate church, the well, the processional routes—to seek help for harvests, households, employment, and health. The annals speak of cures, reconciliations, and mercies notably linked with water: a draught taken in faith, a blessing upon fields, a prayer beside the well. Such reports are sifted with prudence, yet they trace a spiritual topography: grace remembered, petitions renewed, gratitude taught to a new generation. The continuity itself is a sign—communities do not persevere in prayer for nothing; they are schooled by the saint’s life to trust the Lord over time.

Prayer: Lord, who hast visited Thy people with many favours, grant that our petitions may be pure and our thanksgiving sincere. Through Saint Isidore’s prayers, bless our homes and lands.

Scripture: Psalm 84:5–7; Philippians 4:6–7.
