“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. A light has risen for the inhabitants of the region of the shadow of death.” (Isaiah 9:2)
This prophecy from Isaiah proclaims the coming of Christ as the great light shining into the darkness of the world. Darkness represents sin, despair, and separation from the Creator, while the light of Christ brings hope, salvation, and the promise of new life. In Him, the darkness is dispelled, and we are brought into the glorious light of His presence.
Advent reminds us of this divine transformation. Just as the sunrise breaks the grip of night, our Lord Jesus breaks the power of sin and death. His light guides us, comforts us, and reveals the path to eternal life. No matter how deep the darkness in our lives or in the world, it cannot overcome the light of Christ.
As Christmas approaches, may we rejoice in the light that has come into the world. Let us also reflect this light, becoming beacons of hope and love to those around us.
Think of someone who may be struggling with darkness in their life—loneliness, grief, or doubt. Reach out to them today with an encouraging word, a thoughtful gesture, or an invitation to join you in prayer.
O Lord Jesus Christ, my Immanuel, You are the great light shining in the darkness. Thank You for bringing hope and salvation to us through Your coming. Help us to walk in Your light and to share it with others, especially those who feel lost or burdened. Amen.
