“For this reason, the Lord himself will grant to you a sign. Behold, a virgin will conceive, and she will give birth to a son, and his name will be called Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14)
As we begin this season of Advent, we turn our hearts to the ancient prophecy spoken by Isaiah. In the midst of turmoil, the Lord gave His people a promise of hope—a sign that would confirm His faithfulness. This sign, a virgin conceiving and bearing a son, would point to the greatest mystery of our faith: God dwelling among us.
The name “Immanuel” means “God with us,” revealing not only the identity of the child but the intention of God’s heart. He does not remain distant from His creation but chooses to enter into our humanity, redeeming us from within. This prophecy, fulfilled in the birth of Jesus Christ, lets us know that God’s promises are never empty, and His timing is perfect. (Isaiah 55:11)
As we light the first Advent candle, let us meditate on the great lengths God has gone to bring salvation to His people. The promise of Immanuel assures us that we are not alone, even in the darkest times. His presence is with us, guiding and sustaining us through all seasons.
Meditate on moments in your life when you felt God’s presence most clearly. Write down these experiences as reminders of His faithfulness, and thank Him for His abiding love.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the promise of Immanuel, God with us. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, help us to trust in Your faithfulness and to find joy in the knowledge of Your presence. May this Advent season be a time of renewed hope and anticipation. Amen.
