Have mercy on me, and hear me. My heart has spoken to you; my face has sought you. I yearn for your face, O Yahweh.” (Psalm 26:7-8)

Meditatio
Meditate on David’s intense yearning for God, a longing that involves both heart and face—symbolising the inner soul and outward expression of that desire. Do you find yourself crying out to the Lord in times of need, not only for His help but also for His presence? David’s prayer is one of intimacy, seeking not only God’s answers but also His very face. Meditate on what it means to yearn for the Lord in this way.

Meditate on how this desire for communion with the Lord is fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ. Through Christ, we are given direct access to the Heavenly Father, and His work on the Cross ensures that we are heard and received by the Father. Christ is the face of God revealed to us, and through His mercy and sacrifice, we are able to draw near to God with confidence. The cry for mercy and the yearning to see the Lord’s face are answered in Jesus, who bridges the gap between humanity and the Father.

Oratio
Lord Yahweh, hear my voice as I cry out to You. Have mercy on me and draw me close to You. My heart seeks Your face, and I long to be near You. Thank You for providing the way through Your Son, Jesus Christ, who reveals Your face to us and has opened the door for us to come before You. Because of His work on the Cross, I know that You hear me, and I can approach You with confidence. Help me to live in that yearning every day, continually seeking Your presence in all that I do.

Contemplatio
Contemplate on the image of God’s face, revealed to us in Christ. Picture yourself seeking the Lord’s presence and finding it in the person of Jesus. Feel the peace that comes from knowing that your cries are heard, that God’s mercy is real, and that Christ has made the way for you to stand in His presence.

Contemplate on the fact that you are loved and received by the Father, through the sacrifice and mercy of Christ.

Actio
Let this passage move you to actively seek God’s face in your daily life. Make time for prayer and reflection, crying out to the Lord not only in times of need but in a daily desire for His presence. Remember that Christ is the fulfilment of this longing, and through Him, you have access to God’s mercy and love.

Let the reality of Christ’s work on the Cross inspire you to live with a heart constantly seeking God, trusting in His mercy, and yearning for His presence in every aspect of your life. Seek ways to reflect that same mercy to others as you walk in communion with God.

Lectio “Hear my voice, O Yahweh, with which I have cried out to you.
