Then the water, contrary to nature, rose within the shaft until it bore the child to safety. This domestic sign is the icon of Christian marriage: husband and wife united in peril, confident in God, grateful in deliverance. The well, a daily necessity, becomes the place of rescue; the parents, partners in intercession.
