Lectio

“For you illuminate my lamp, O Yahweh. My God, enlighten my darkness. For in you, I will be delivered from temptation; and with my God, I will climb over a wall.” (Psalm 17:29-30)

Meditatio

  • “You illuminate my lamp, O Yahweh”: God is the source of light and guidance in our lives. Meditate on how the Lord’s presence brings clarity, direction, and hope even in the darkest moments. Meditate on times when you might have felt lost or confused, and how turning to God has provided the light you needed.
  • “My God, enlighten my darkness”: Darkness represents confusion, fear, and sin. Meditate on how God dispels the darkness in your life, bringing truth, understanding, and comfort. What are the areas of darkness in your life right now? How can you invite the light of God into these areas?
  • “In you, I will be delivered from temptation”: Our Lord provides strength and protection against the temptations and trials we face. Meditate on the struggles and temptations you encounter, and how trusting in Yahweh gives you the power to overcome them. How has He delivered you from past temptations, and how can you rely on Him in the future?
  • “With my God, I will climb over a wall”: This imagery tells us of overcoming obstacles and challenges through God’s help. Think about the “walls” or barriers in your life—whether they are personal, spiritual, or external. How can you lean on Christ to help you overcome these obstacles?

Oratio

O Lord, You are the light in my life, guiding me through the darkest paths. Illuminate my heart and mind, dispelling any darkness within me. I trust in You, Yahweh, to deliver me from every temptation and trial that I face. Strengthen me to overcome the obstacles that stand in my way, knowing that with Your help, nothing is insurmountable. May Your light always lead me, and may I always find my refuge and strength in You. Lord Jesus, continue to guide me in Your Way, for You are the light of the world, and I know that following You, I shall never walk in the darkness. Amen.

Contemplatio

  • Contemplate God as Your Light: Contemplate on the fact that God’s light is always present, guiding you and illuminating your path. Let this truth bring you peace and assurance.
  • Consider the Strength in God’s Presence: Contemplate on the strength and confidence that comes from knowing God is with you, enabling you to overcome any challenge or temptation. Let this inspire a deep trust and reliance on Him.

Actio

  • Seek God’s Light in Decisions: The next time you face a difficult decision or a moment of weakness, pause and ask God to illuminate your path and guide your steps.
  • Rely on God’s Strength Against Temptation: Identify an area of your life where you struggle with temptation. Commit to turning to God in prayer when you feel weak, trusting that He will provide the strength you need to overcome it.
  • Overcome Obstacles with God’s Help: Think of a specific “wall” or challenge you’re currently facing. Pray for God’s assistance, and take a step forward in faith, knowing that with His help, you can overcome it.
